Why I No Longer Include Hair and Makeup in My Boudoir Sessions
Over the years, my approach to boudoir photography in Central Florida has shifted. What once felt like a standard offering no longer supported the kind of experience I want my clients to have.
That’s why I no longer include professional hair and makeup in my boudoir sessions.
This decision wasn’t about removing value. It was about simplifying the process, reducing pressure, and creating a more relaxed and authentic boudoir experience.
Boudoir Photography Isn’t About Transformation
Boudoir is often presented as a dramatic “before and after.” While that approach can be empowering for some, I’ve found that the most meaningful images come from something quieter.
When clients do their own hair and makeup, they arrive looking and feeling like themselves. They recognize their reflection. There’s less self-consciousness and less pressure to perform for the camera. That comfort shows in the final images.
A Boudoir Session Shouldn’t Take an Entire Day
Professional hair and makeup can easily add several hours to a session day. Early start times, long prep, and waiting around can leave clients feeling tired before the session even begins.
By no longer including hair and makeup, boudoir sessions become:
More relaxed and efficient
Easier to fit into real life
Less physically and emotionally draining
Most clients appreciate that their session feels intentional without feeling overwhelming.
Familiar Beauty Builds Confidence
Doing your own hair and makeup means you already know what works for you. You understand your skin, your features, and what makes you feel comfortable.
Instead of worrying about whether a look feels “too much” or unfamiliar, you can focus on being present. Confidence grows faster when you feel like yourself.
Less Pressure Creates Better Boudoir Photos
One of the biggest changes I noticed after removing hair and makeup was how quickly clients relaxed.
Without hours of buildup, there’s less anxiety and more ease. Sessions feel calmer, more intimate, and more connected. That emotional comfort is something no amount of styling can replace.
This Is About Choice, Not Rules
Not including hair and makeup doesn’t mean you can’t dress up or enjoy your beauty routine. If doing your makeup is something you love, I encourage you to do it in a way that feels authentic to you. The goal isn’t minimalism. It’s comfort.
A Simpler Boudoir Experience
At its core, this choice reflects how I approach boudoir photography today.
Less pressure.
Less performance.
More presence.
That’s where the most meaningful images are created.
